Absences
All absences from school need to be explained by notification from the child’s family / carers. This allows teachers to complete the registers of attendance (rolls) according to Government policy. Absences can be notified by phone call, email or written note to the class teacher or front office. The front office will make contact via text message in the case of unexplained absences.
If students arrive after 9:10am, they are to go to the front office accompanied by a parent / carer and be signed in by office staff. Students will then receive a ‘late slip’ to hand to class teachers. This informs the teacher the student has been signed in.
In the interests of safety, no child is to leave the school grounds during school hours without permission being given directly to the school by parents or carers. Parents taking a child from the school before 3:00pm are asked to sign their child out at the front office.
Our school's Attendance Procedure is available here.
Appointments with Teachers
Communication between school and home is highly valued and encouraged by the team at Farrer Primary School.
In term one staff run information sessions where they unpack the proposed programs, detail routines and share information relevant to class cohorts. We also host 'getting to know you interviews' with families. These are an opportunity for parent and carers to share important information about their children with the teaching team.
In term two, alongside written reports we offer parent / teacher interviews where class teachers unpack children's progress with families.
Learning journeys take place in term three. These are an opportunity for parents and carers to come into classrooms and see their child/ren's work samples and celebrate their progress. Children take a lead role in showcasing various pieces of work.
In term four, as a follow up to semester two written reports, it is optional for parents to make an interview time with teachers.
Outside these official times, parents and carers are asked to make an appointment for any discussion with the class teacher, executive teacher, Deputy Principal or Principal. Please contact the front office on 6142 0860 to make an appointment.
Assemblies
In 2022 assemblies will be held online in weeks 3, 6 and 9 of term. These will take place on Monday afternoons from 2-3pm. Year six parliament will be hosting assemblies in their role as school leaders. During these gatherings classes may share an aspect of their program, there will be opportunities for student acknowledgement and messages will be shared with the whole school.
